I turned around, wondering what was going on.
“Dad? I don’t get it? Why is Mom in the hospital?” she said.
I couldn’t hear the reply, but I saw her get even paler.
“I will be right there,” she whispered, shutting her phone.
She grabbed her coat and didn’t spare me a single glance before saying, “My mom’s had a heart attack.”
And with that, she ran out. I collapsed on the sofa.
How the hell had everything gotten so messed up with this woman?
