Noel immediately gave him a sleepy smile, and instead of taking one of the free chairs, Daniel curled up in his lap. Noel wrapped one arm around him and sighed.
“It’s such a beautiful day. I’m tempted to have us both play hooky and spend the day together,” he murmured as he pressed a soft kiss to Daniel’s neck.
Daniel tilted his head to give his soulmate more access. “Don’t you have to follow some randy husband today?”
Noel kissed him again. “I’m supposed to, but I’ve got enough dirt on him already.”
“Well, I shouldn’t take the day off. Something’s going on with the ley lines under the city, and Xavier has me investigating. It’s exciting stuff.”
“More exciting than a day in bed with me?” Noel buried his nose in Daniel’s neck.
“Nothing’s more exciting than that.” Daniel turned his head and pressed their lips together. “But we have many, many days where we’ll be able to spend the day in bed.”
Daniel still couldn’t believe that he had a soulmate. They’d bonded in a quick ceremony, and now Noel would live a long life with him. Noel was still trying to wrap his mind aroundit, voicing his wonder over the whole thing often. Arcane had approached him about coming back and had doubled down when they’d learned he now had a preternatural lifespan, but Noel was done with traveling. He often told Daniel how happy he was to be settled and that if either of them got wanderlust at some point, then they’d deal with it then. Because the future was wide open.
Daniel looked at this man who was completely his and couldn’t help but smile.
“What’s that look for?” Noel asked.
“Changed my mind.” He set his coffee on the table, turned on Noel’s lap, and straddled it. “I think hours in bed is the perfect way to spend today.”
He wrapped his arms around Noel’s neck and just held on. They had lots of days coming where they could say to hell with responsibilities, and he was going to take as many of them as he could.
The End
