And there really hadn’t been the perfect moment yet to ask Freya to become mine forever. We’d been busy settling into a life together while traveling back and forth from Chicago and Ferguson.

And the last place I wanted to ask her to become my wife was in a crowded airport.

“What about now?”

His attention never strayed from Freya and Quinn, but his gaze was most assuredly not on his sister.

“I’ll think about it.”

But I’d already made up my mind where I wanted to ask her. There was only one place that was perfect. And Freya deserved perfect.

“Pussy.”

“I could be saying the same thing to you.” I pointedly looked at Quinn, earning myself a glare in response.

My phone vibrated in my pocket, but I ignored it. This was the sixth time in five minutes I’d felt it vibrate. Carter was in charge today, and he could deal with whatever problem seemed to have come up.

Liam turned to face me, giving up his obsessive stare for now. “I know you’re trying to impress my sister with your refusal to answer your phone, but it's better that she learns early on that you can’t just take a day off.”

He really was a control freak. “That might be true for you, but I’m just fine handing over control to Carter. He’s more than capable of taking care of my business.”

My phone vibrated again, and Liam raised his brow in a silentI told you so.

Flipping him off, I walked outside to take the damn call.

“Finally. Since when do you not answer your phone?” Carter complained as soon as I picked up. “Never mind, I know since when.”

“Are you going to get to the point, or do I have to continue ignoring my phone since this is a pointless conversation?”

“Blake is gone.”

I straightened. “What do you mean? How can he just disappear? We have trackers on literally every electronic device he owns. And on his car and bike.”

“He’s going after Sam’s killer. Left me a note. There’s one for you as well.”

Not much shocked me these days, but this gave me pause. Two years ago, I’d lost a man during a mission. We never figured out who gave the order to execute him, but our search led us to a small cartel.

“Where?”

“He’s in Guyana.”

That was the last place I thought he’d go. It was a tiny country in South America, and the cartel we’d been looking for operated out of Colombia. Or so we thought.

Regardless of his betrayal, he’d be dead within a week if he went by himself. “Do we have any contacts out there?”

Carter sighed, thinking the same thing I did. “None. He’s on his own.”

“Fucking idiot. If he had a lead, he should have come to us. See what you can find out. There has to be someone who knows something.”

“That’s not all.”

I groaned. “What else could there possibly be?”

“He left Sofie with me.”
