“Remember,” Astronomus adds, her eyes locking with mine, “you are never alone. We will always watch over you, guiding you, protecting you.”
Astryl smiles, her eyes reflecting the angelic light, and whispers, “Thank you.”
I nod, feeling a deep sense of peace settle over me. “Yes, thank you. We promise to honor this blessing, to cherish each other and the unity we’ve created.”
There’s just one thing missing.
“What about Astryl’s birth parents?” I ask. I know it’s something that’s on Astryl’s mind, even if she won’t say it. “Is it possible to find them? After all this, doesn’t she deserve to know where she came from?”
Her guardian angel’s face is a mask of conflicting emotions. “That’s a complicated question. There are limits to what I can reveal, I’m afraid.”
“So, you can’t tell us who they are?” Astryl asks, her shoulders slumping.
“No,” the angel confirms, but then she winks. “But... if a seeing mirror should find its way under your pillow tonight, who’s to say how it got there?”
We both grin.
“Thank you, Krystal. We’re grateful for all that you’ve taught us, and we will always be honored to serve our purpose.”
The angel smiles. “Now, go. Enjoy the celebrations. You’ve earned it.”
The guardian angels nod in unison, their expressions filled with warmth and divine understanding. As they ascend back into the heavens, their presence lingers, a comforting reminder of the love and guidance that will always be with us.
The others break off their conversations and join us, and the Shade Wolf, scurries over as well. There’s a twinkle in Elira’s eyes and a broad grin on Joran’s face.
“What are you two smiling about?” I ask, raising an eyebrow.
“We were talking about how much has changed since we first met,” Joran replies. “Just think: not so long ago, we were capturing this wild dragon and you two were at each other’s throats.”
Elira’s eyes are alight. “And we were discussing how lucky we are that you’re our leaders, Thaldiran. I’m so proud of what you’ve accomplished, and I know Veridale is too.”
“Thanks, Elira. I appreciate your support. But really, we wouldn’t have come this far without the support of all our people.”
“Yes, yes. Of course,” Joran interjects.
Elira rolls her eyes, but her smile is genuine. “Well, now that’s settled, let’s go! There’s plenty of wine left, and I could use a drink!”
As we stand together, enveloped by the love and support of our people, I realize that this is just the beginning of our journey. With Astryl by my side and our guardian angels watching over us, we are ready to face whatever challenges and adventures await us, united in love and purpose.
And as the bonfire’s flames continue to dance and the joyful sounds of celebration fill the air, I know that this moment, this union of hearts and worlds, will be the foundation upon which we build a future filled with hope, unity, and endless love.
