I reached over to kiss him. When it lingered a moment too long, Ms. Smith wolf-whistled in the background.
Since it was my turn to babysit, Ms. Smith stayed by Ryan's side, keeping him and Elizabeth company while I went to Andrew's room. Among all the prehistoric plushes, there was something that kept drawing my eye. His copy ofMagic the Unicorn. It sat right on his bedside table at the very top of his stack of books. There were plenty of new books to choose from, butMagicremained his favorite.
I couldn't help but think it was a sign from the fates.
"So, which member of the dinosaur herd are we playing with today?" I asked.
Andrew picked up a pterosaur, making it soar through the air. "Dragon!"
I smiled. If only he knew therewerereal dragons among us. Since becoming a family, I'd only shown my true form to Ryan, but maybe it was time for Andrew to learn the truth as well.
After thinking about it for a moment, I said, "Andrew, do you still like unicorns as well?"
"Yeah!"
I smiled, my heart full of love for my fated family. "Would you like to see a real one?"
