“Call the fire department, Mom. Dad’s doing a bonfire again.”
My girls laugh and Aspen glares at me. “You’re very bad.” She leans in and whispers so softly that the girls can’t hear. “You better watch it or you won’t be touching me for awhile there, Jax. I know you don’t want that.”
Shaking my head, I grunt and then head over to open the jar of pickles and grab the burgers off the counter where they’ve been covered and waiting.
We sit down and my wife blows out the candles, throwing her head back and laughing as the girls tease her. The candles light up her eyes and her smile and my breath stops.
I look around at the dog sleeping in the corner and the girls, miniatures of their beautiful mother and I can’t help but think that I’m a lucky motherfucker.
I’m living the dream. Living the best life I could ever have.
And it’s all because of her. My angel. My Red. My home.
Mine. Forever.
