“I didn’t catch it. Did they slide Sorensen’s piece in on the break?”

“I don’t think so. You know Erik writes under a twisted version of his name, right?” I’m teasing now. It’s obvious that Shane didn’t know until this minute about Erik’s pen name.

Shane’s eyes narrow, and he’s silent as he thinks. “Is it Riksen? Something Riksen?”

“S. Riksen.”

“How’d you find out it was him?”

“That’s a secret.”

His gaze cuts to my face immediately. “Not from me it isn’t. Spill.”

I smirk, despite how serious he sounds. “Are you jealous?”

“Maybe. Now spill.”

My fingers move to the side of his face and trace a path through his stubble. “Maybe we can trade secrets.” My concentration is getting better, and my interest in his secret room has returned.

Shane captures my hand and moves it to his mouth where he bites the flesh on the back of it.

“Hey,” I protest, trying to tug it away.

His grip tightens, holding the hand captive. “You’d better tell me, kitten, before you get yourself in trouble.”

A shiver of anticipation tightens my nipples. “You can’t punish me. I’m still recovering.”

He gives my hand a sucking kiss, then lowers it to rest on his thigh. “Right, because a beast is never what you need in bed.”

My heart thumps harder, but my smile remains as I look out the passenger window.

Shane and I may not know all of each other’s secrets yet, but the secret of what we are to each other is something we’ve always understood.

Deep down in the dark and hidden places is where we own each other.
