I shed a few more tears at the endearment and nod, because I’m not going to be able to talk without sobbing. After a few minutes with her arms around me, Nick comes by and takes over, notching me under his chin as he hugs me from behind.

“Was this okay?”

“Baby, this was the most special thing that anyone’s ever done for me before. I’m… I’m blown away by it. Thank you.”

He turns me around and looks me in the eyes. “You know why I did this, right?”

I smile, knowing the answer, then kiss his chin. “No clue.”

He narrows his eyes at me, but I know it’s just for show. “You’re gonna make me say it, aren’t you?”

“Call it my very own special dispensation for bagging a Navy SEAL.”

He rolls his eyes, and I know he’s thinking about last night, how we took turns taking and giving, and how we both woke up this morning, moving slow and grinning like idiots.

He boops the end of my nose. “I broke several laws and dragged our entire family, blood and found, here for a memorial service… because I love you.”

“I find that acceptable.” I bite the inside of my lip, loving the fact that he’s raised his eyebrow at me, the one that doesn’t doubt me anymore. I’m also fairly certain that my leaking eyes mean that the jig is up.

I look into his chocolate hazel eyes, soft with emotion, and feel the pull between us, stronger than ever. “I love you, too.”

He smiles that devastating smile of his and wraps his arms around me, and I know for a fact that he’ll never let me go.

Bet.
