Alexander finally stepped back, straightening his posture as if nothing had happened. “Let’s go have lunch now,” he said casually, like he hadn’t just set her entire nervous system on fire.
He paused, letting his gaze trail slowly down her body, hunger darkening his eyes.
“You can eat first…” His lips curved into a sinful smirk. “And then I’ll eat you.”
Electricity shot through Mia so violently she nearly jolted. Panic slammed into her chest. “No—I have to send an urgent mail!” she blurted, scrambling away from him so fast she almost tripped.
She rushed out of the room like her life depended on it.
Alexander watched her flee, lips twitching in pure amusement.
As she darted out the door, Allen stepped in and nearly collided with her. He stared after her, confused, then turned to Alexander.
“Mr. Graves—this is the file Mrs. Graves brought for you,” he said, handing the folder over.
Alexander didn’t even look at it. He tossed it onto the desk like it weighed nothing.
“Mr. Graves,” Allen continued, checking his tab, “are you still having that meeting with Janet today?”
Alexander’s expression iced over instantly. “I won’t be meeting any woman privately. You will handle it.”
Allen blinked. “But Mr. Graves, your mother said—”
“I am a married man, Allen.” His voice was icy, final. “I don’t care what my mother or anyone else expects of me. I'm not meeting privately with any woman who isn’t my wife.”
His eyes met Allen’s, indifferent and unwavering.
“You will attend the meeting. And cancel that damn contract for good.”
Allen nodded.
“It’s already been cancelled, Mr. Graves,” he explained. “Months ago. All legal procedures are done. Miss Goodwin signed it, and we compensated her.”
Alexander gave a short, stiff nod. “Good. Book the private room. Take lawyers. Make it clear she has no connection to me anymore. She is not allowed inside my house again.” His eyes narrowed with cold finality. “Then inform my mother her request is completed. Don’t mention whether I went or not.”
“Yes, Mr. Graves,” Allen said.
Alexander sat down and leveled a stare at him. “Allen?”
“Yes, Mr. Graves?”
“Why are you still single?”
Allen froze. Completely. His soul briefly left his body.
It took everything in him not to scream it out loud: ‘Sir, you’re a 48-hour job squeezed into 24. I don’t even have time to blink, let alone date! How am I supposed to date when you drain every minute of my existence?’
Alexander’s mind replayed the elevator gossip. ‘I’ve heard rumors that Allen and Mr. Graves are…together. Someone even wrote a romantic fanfiction about them.’
His expression twisted in annoyance.
“From now on,” Alexander declared, voice clipped, “your duties also include getting into a relationship and getting married within this year.”
Allen’s mouth dropped open.
“If you fail,” Alexander added calmly, “I will replace you with another secretary.”
“…Sir—WHAT?”
