“Adjoining rooms?”

“No,” she said and had to laugh.

“You sleep…”

“In the next room.”

“The room next to his?So one night, you’re really tired, you accidentally wander into the wrong—”

“Roxie!”This woman was all kinds of crazy, each endearing in itself.“We’re not sleeping together. We’re friends.”

“Friends who live together.”

“Yes.”

“You’re working in his house too?”

“My father showing on Monday was bad enough. When Damon came to my office on the Tuesday, I couldn’t stand any more.I grabbed everything and came home.”

“To the office Bastian set up for you, like he knew.”

“That Damon wouldn’t stay away?”she asked.“Am I asking too much of Bastian? It is kind of rude.I’ve just moved into his life and taken over.”

“No!You’re friends, right? That’s what friends do for each other.I’d do the same.If you want to live somewhere else, work somewhere else, pick a city and I’ll make it happen. You don’t have to rely on him if you don’t want to.”

“Oh, God, I’m an awful friend.”

“What kind of friend would Bastian and I be if we left you in that mess?Have you talked to your sister?”

That dropped her shoulders a little.“I think she believes me.She said Charissa never will.”

“Oh no, whatever will you do?”Roxie droned with flat humor.

“I’m not losing any sleep over Charissa.”

“Adara is stuck in the middle. Not your fault.”

No, it wasn’t the fault of any Scott.Damon and Charissa’s affair kicked off this drama a year ago.Adara was in the middle then too, but at least the couple were considerate enough to leave the continent for a while after the discovery of their indiscretion. This time Damon caused the drama all on his own, yet she was a guilty party? How was that fair? She’d done nothing wrong.

Except kiss Bastian in the stairwell.Yeah.They hadn’t talked about that yet.Yet?When would be a good time to bring it up?Uh… never was the most appealing option.

“They’re both still staying at the house, Adara will be hearing from them every day.”Which wasn’t fair.“And all she wants to talk about is wedding stuff, but…”

“This is taking precedence. She’ll want you involved, but want Charissa involved too.”

Right then, the two women couldn’t be in the same place at once.

What a mess.

Personally? She had no beef with Charissa. The affair mess that ended her and Damon’s relationship last year barely flickered.Harper was so over that.If anything, she should thank the woman for taking Dickwad Damon off her hands.Unfortunately, just becauseshewouldn’t start fights didn’t mean there wouldn’t be any.Somehow her presence incited them without her uttering a word.Would this end well? There was just no way.

“I won’t make it difficult for her. She’s innocent in all of this.”

People brought drama to the Scott house.Boy, was she glad to be out of it.Yes, she wanted to help her sister, to embrace this happy time, but her and Charissa in the same place wouldn’t end happy.

“What did you say about Bastian?”

“To Adara?Nothing.”
