He furrowed his brow then shook his head. “No. Connor’s a good man. He’s good to Olivia. GoodforOlivia.”

I nodded. “I agree. Even in the brief time I’ve spent with them, it’s clear they love each other.”

“But is love enough?”

“I’d like to think so.” I swallowed, wondering if I should stop myself from pressing further. “Can I ask you a personal question?”

He lifted a shoulder, but I saw the tension he carried there. “Sure.”

“Why are you against marriage? Is it because of what happened with Cam?”

He groaned. “Do I really have to answer that?”

“What?” I placed my hands on my hips. “You can push me on my personal life, but I can’t do the same to you?”

He grimaced. “Fine. And yes. It’s because of what happened with Cam. Neither of us was without fault, but our divorce was nasty. I don’t ever want to go through something like that again.”

“I can understand that.” My circumstances might be different, but I was afraid to risk my heart again.

“It’s getting late,” I said, noting how the sun was dipping lower in the sky. “We should head in to get ready. I don’t want to be late for the tasting.”

“Should I bring a notepad to keep track of everything?” he teased.

“Just your appetite. They don’t skimp on portions, despite the fact that it’s a tasting menu.”

“I’m always hungry.” He patted his stomach, though his eyes spoke of a different type of hunger as I ascended the pool stairs. The type of hunger that spelled trouble. “What? You don’t believe me?”

“You can’t eat whatever you want and have a body like that.”

“A body like what?” He waggled his eyebrows, watching me as I walked along the edge of the pool. “Are you finally admitting that you find me attractive?”

I rolled my eyes and tossed him a towel when he exited the water. “I never denied it. I just said we shouldn’t talk about it.”

“In front of Olivia.”

I glared at him, wrapping a towel around my waist. “We shouldn’t talk about it at all.”

“Why? Don’t you know I justlovetalking about me?”

But I knew it wasn’t true. Considering who he was and all that he’d accomplished, Harrison was incredibly humble. He was confident, but he carried himself with a sort of grace that I admired.

“Honestly…” I paused, then shook my head. “Never mind.”

“Wait—” He grabbed my arm, forcing me to look at him. “I want to know.”

“It doesn’t matter.” I stepped away from his touch. I shouldn’t tell him what I was thinking. He was emotionally unavailable—a risky choice when my heart had already been broken.

“Your opinion matters,” he said. “It matters to me.”

“In this line of work… Well, I see it all. I’m no stranger to working with celebrities and professional athletes, but you’re…” I cocked my head to the side. “Different.”

“Different how?”

I shook my head, lips sealed. I’d already said too much. “Just different.” He opened his mouth as if to say something, but I started walking, forcing him to follow. “Come on. We don’t want to be late.”

“Are you ever late for anything?” he teased.

“It’s rare, but it does happen.”
