When I pull into one of my three reserved spaces in front of the entrance, I notice what looks like soft light through my shades. I swore I turned everything off when I left yesterday evening but I guess not. It’s a good thing I had to stop.
After unlocking my door, I enter and notice my alarm doesn’t sound. Now, I never forget to set my alarm. With trepidation, I grip the mace on my keychain, leave the front door ajar, then quietly step in further. I don’t know why but I yell out.
“Is anyone here?”
I immediately regret my words because if there’s a burglar and he actually responds, I’m one hundred percent sure that I’ll pass-ass-out. When no one yells back in response, I exhale loudly, relieved. However, when the faint sound of music starts to play, I panic. I flip the cover off my mace then trek forward. When I turn the corner, the sight in front of me causesme to drop my only weapon. My keys drop on the ground as tears fill my eyes.
There’s a handsome intruder, in fact, standing in the middle of white carpet rolled out on the floor. Lining the carpet are white candles, all illuminating the otherwise dark space. He’s dressed in his black suit and holding a larger-than-life bouquet of white roses. The image of him alone solicits my tears but the lit, huge, white letters behind him makes my heart race with excitement as I read them.FOREVER & YOU.
“What are you doing?” I ask in an elevated tone I don’t recognize as I power walk to him.
He doesn’t answer until I’m standing in front of him. After placing the bouquet in my hands, he kneels down on one knee then reaches for my hand. I gladly accept his hand and notice a small, velvet box in his other hand. The sight of it, him, the words, and the soft music all have my emotions and heart going wild.
“Jamila, you are everything I want in a woman, my woman; and I can’t imagine my life without you. Being stranded in that hotel was the best thing that could have happened for me. I love you and my forever only exists with you. You’ve managed to capture my heart over these past months and I know there’s nobody else for me. Will you spend forever with me?”
My answer is a resounding yes; however, I’m speechless. His words and his love have left me mute. My vision is blurry too, clouded with happy tears. He’s opened the box but I can barely see the ring or him.
I blink rapidly and my happy tears fall. For a moment, I simply stare at him. He’s absolutely correct, the blizzardchanged my life too; he’s changed my life. Denim is my love and my heart. I truly love him with every inch of my body and my entire soul. Caught up in the moment, I lean down and kiss him lovingly. As we kiss, he manages to stand.
When our lips part, he stares into my eyes and asks, “Is that a yes?”
My words and voice have abandoned me but I’m still able to smile and I can’t stop. So with the biggest smile plastered on my face, I nod profusely and he slides the breathtaking ring on my finger. He wraps his arms around my waist and I melt into the man I love.
The End
