“What do you care? Got someplace else you gotta be? Just be glad we’re willing to come at all. Until we do, you’ll have to wait like everyone else.”

The call ended abruptly, but it didn’t surprise her. Disgusted, Dorsey slammed the receiver back onto the base. The deputy chuckled as she walked up to place the cuff back around her wrist.

“I don’t suppose I could have a second call?”

“Sorry. One per customer. That’s the rules, and I’m a stickler for following the rules.”

Dorsey kept her mouth shut while she was escorted back to her cell. But once the cell door closed behind her, she allowed herself to smile. This asshat little sheriff and his asshat deputies had no idea who or what they were messing with. They didn’t have the foggiest notion what they were up against, or what was about to come down on them when the shit finally hit the fan.

“All you had to do was let us have the little ones. You could’ve kept the first generation, and we would have amicably parted ways. But, no. You had to stick your nose into our business. Well, fuck you. Don’t come crying when the big boys come to town. You deserve everything you’re going to get when they show up. And I’ll be right here dying of laughter when they do.”

Still smugly smiling, Dorsey laced her fingers behind her head and stretched out on her bunk to await the inevitable.
