“Too bad. I’ve already asked my boss to transfer me to the New York office. I’m hiring an agent to put my apartment on the market too. Our life is in America.”

“You always have to one up me with the scheming, don’t you?”

Adrian shakes his head. “There is no scheming this time. Only us and the truth. I’ll get an apartment in New York. We can start fresh and be together, like it was always meant to be.”

“What part of you getting your own apartment is meant to sound appealing?” I tease.

“I didn’t want to assume anything.”

“Well, assume away. We’ll buy a place together. It will be ours. We’ll get married like they always said we would as kids. We’ll never spend a night apart for the rest of our lives.”

He kisses me again, the two of us laughing against each other’s lips as snow floats down on us. The next words out of his mouth are spoken as a whisper, and he’s the happiest I’ve ever seen him. “You are mine and I am yours, Verena Valentine.”

“Always.”
