When I parked at the top of Scottsbluff, I told her to stay put, and I rushed around to open her door. I held her hand as she stepped out.

“Can I look yet?”

“No, be patient.”

“When did I ever give you the impression that I was a patient person?”

I looked over at Ellie, who stood to the side with her husband Ryder, and their kids, next to Pops, my brothers and Addie, and winked. Ellie laughed silently and shook her head.

I led Jessie over to the edge so she faced the view. I stood behind her and wrapped my arms around her. With my chin resting on her shoulder, I whispered, “Take it off.”

Her gasp was so loud, and her body trembled.

“It’s so beautiful.” Her voice shook, and when I looked at her face, her eyes welled up with tears. “Thank you,” she whispered.

“Marry me.” It wasn’t a question; I wouldn’t take the chance of her saying no. I let her go and got down on one knee with a small black velvet box in my hand. She turned, and her hands went to her mouth. Her eyes ping-ponged between me and the ring.

“Grayson.”

“Say yes, Jessie. Please fucking say yes.”

“Yes!”

I placed the ring on her finger, and Jessie’s mouth hung open when she noticed the shouting and clapping. Addie and Ellie threw their arms around Jessie, screaming, while my brothers slapped me on the back, congratulating me.

I pulled Jessie away and into my arms. “I love you, Jessica Montoya.”

She looked up at me and smiled. “I love you, Grayson Powell.”
