“You can have anything you want, Cam.”

He raised his eyebrows, giving her a mischievous look. “Is that right?”

Jaymee knew exactly what he meant by the inquiry and understood the inflection of his tone. She wasn’t going to deny it. Cameron could have her, too.

“Yes, it is. In time. Right now, you get snacks. You’ll get the rest when all this is over with.” She didn’t want to think about Daniel Coulter, dead at his desk, or Carmine Russo, hanging from a thick rope in an abandoned warehouse.

“Okay, Jay,” Cameron said, circling the island, his eyes filled with delight. He looked like a kid in a candy store.

“You’re really into these snacks, aren’t you, Cameron?” she asked, amusement in her voice.

He grinned at her. “Of course,” he said. “This is like my childhood dream, to come into a kitchen like this and have it filled with junk food of every kind.”

“Really?”

Cameron stopped in front of the bags of chips spilling over themselves. He grabbed one and opened it. He took out a chip and popped it in his mouth, chewing with a thoughtful look on his face. He dropped his eyes to hers and grinned with his mouth closed.

“Yes, really. Join me. Let’s get hopped up on sugar.”

With a laugh, Jaymee did just that, grateful that she had someone like Cameron in her life to be by her side, whether it was to interrogate a witness, question a suspect, or eat every snack in the house in one sitting.
