Katrina’s just broken my heart.
I thought that was impossible. I thought I’d never fall in love. Throughout my centuries of life, all of these other relationships have been meaningless. And I thought that was because love wasn’t real. I thought it was an illusion.
That’s not true.
It’s just so special that it’s literally a one-in-a-million chance.
Katrina’s the one.
She’s our one. Our Center.
And there’s no way in fuck I’ll let her go.
I don’t know exactly what I’ll do to win her back yet, but I know where to look. I pull up Netflix on my phone and search for the greatest romantic comedies of all time.

KASTROS
It’s better this way. I don’t want it to be, I wish it wasn’t so, but she’s better off without us. Katrina’s human. And her soul… It makes my chest clench just thinking about how pure her soul is, how sweet, how full it is of the most potent force in the universe—love.
When I woke up, my entire body still throbbing, I knew immediately that Katrina was gone. They didn’t even need to say a word for me to know that she’d left, taking my soul with her. The pain in my body feels insignificant compared to the ache where my heart once was.
I’ve never seen a big sister take such good care of her little brother or be so utterly protective of him. After all she’s been through, she could have turned into a bitter, selfish person. But Katrina’s not like that.
She’s so delicate and beautiful, like a flower.
If we pluck her, she’ll die.
It’s better if we walk away and leave her here to grow and flourish like she’s done for so many years. Better for her and for us. Walking away is sometimes the hardest thing to do, but look at her, she did it.
She’s so damn strong.
Tears gather in the corner of my eyes, and I swipe at them. Old hurts gape and old wounds are scratched raw inside my chest as around me, all of the other guys rant and rage or plan or swoon.
They’re all going to try to convince her to stay, but what if she does? What if she does and one of us is killed? What will that do to her? To Adam?
What if something happens toher?
They’re all going to try to convince her she made the wrong decision. That means it’s going to be up to me to convince her she made the right one.
