Her face lit up. “I’ve got it.”

She quickly found the third clue with the word Marry, and she paused, her eyes wide. “Dalton? What’s this?”

“It’s not the set of clues for the guests. This maze is just for you.”

Her eyes filled with tears.

“Come on. We have to find the fourth clue.”

This time, I took her hand and walked more slowly through the paths until we got to the last one. It was close to the exit, but I wasn’t in any hurry to leave.

The fourth clue was Me with a ring box perched on the station. I dropped to one knee. “Blake, there’s no one else I’d want to navigate this maze of life with than you. Will you always hold my hand and be by my side through everything?”

She nodded, her eyes filled with tears.

“Will you marry me?” I was grateful my voice didn’t crack with emotion because the hand holding hers was shaking.

“Yes.”

Then she dropped to the ground in front of me and kissed me. “I’ll always be with you.”

We kissed for a long time with the sounds of the various fountains and misters sounding off around us.

I grabbed the ring box, sat on a bench I’d installed next to this last clue station, and opened it for her. It was a diamond surrounded by blue stones.

“It’s gorgeous.”

“I wanted something unique like you that reminded me of the paintings you do of the sky and the water.”

“This is beautiful. The maze. The proposal. You.”

“We have all night to enjoy the maze. I packed a picnic dinner that we can sit by the pool. Then I want to take you home so we can take a walk on the beach.”

I had more plans than that for her. But I wanted to enjoy the evening with her before I took her to bed.
