Without warning he threw himself against her, his thin arms circling her neck, his head burrowing into her neck. The sound of crying tore at her, and she looked at Carter, feeling helpless.
Carter rubbed his son’s back. “It’s going to be okay, bud. You’ll love having a little brother or sister, I promise.”
“I’ll love him so much,” Thad choked into her shoulder.
Erin closed her eyes against the tears flooding them. Today wasn’t supposed to be about tears, but they were happy tears, at least. Hopefully the first of many more tears—and laughter—to come.
“We know you will,” Carter assured Thad, his own voice gravelly. “We all will. Himorher.”
