“Maybe each other,” she said, snagging her bottle to round the counter and join him near the desk.“There’s nothing in the cabinets to eat.”In her defense, she hadn’t known they were going to be there.“You’ll have to do your provide thing, hunter.”

“I’m betting a sushi place around here delivers.”

“There’s an amazing sushi place a few blocks into town.”

“Do they deliver?”

Another swig or two later, she put the bottle on the desk.“I don’t know, they’re too expensive.I’ve never eaten there.”

“Watch me provide, little woman,” he said, retrieving his phone.

The moment it was out of his pocket, she pushed his jacket from his arms and started working on opening his shirt.

When he had a bunch of sushi places listed on his screen, he turned it to her, and she tapped the one she’d mentioned. As he placed their order, she kissed his chest, trailing her fingertips up and down his torso, feeling, tasting, needing.

Hearing him rhyme off her address stalled her, until she remembered typing it into the car’s navigation system.Man, she’d have to keep an eye on that astuteness of his.

“There’s a ten-k tip in it for you, if you get it here in twenty minutes,” he said into the phone, which she then relieved him of to add…

“Make it thirty. He has some business to deal with first.”

Hanging up, she leaned aside to put his phone on the desk.

Snatching her wrist, he yanked her against him.“Business?Business like where’s the bedroom?”

She shook her head and twined his arms around her, holding them there as she retreated.“We don’t end our night in the bedroom.”

“We don’t?”

Not there anyway.Continuing on, she took them to the center of the couch and shoved him and his smugness down.

“Lay down and shut up,” she said, going to grab the remote from next to the TV to turn it on.

Raising his legs to the couch, he braced his arms to stay semi-upright.“What are we watching?”

Cuing up the movie was clue enough, though she’d bet he anticipated the choice.

“Nothing,” she said, starting the movie and casting the remote aside.“All those times I wished I could shut you up.”Skimming one knee across his abdomen, it sank into the couch between his hip and the backrest.“Now you get to do something with that mouth.”

That wasn’t quoting the movie.

Sliding down until he was lying beneath her, he made short work of freeing her from her bra.“This where you talk to me?”

If he wanted to play, they’d play, but she hadn’t dealt all the cards yet.Sinking down, touching her lips to his, she lingered, waiting, giving him a chance to decide.Did he want to mock her or fuck her?

That signal was clear when he snatched a handful of her hair to angle her head and force their mouths closer.A kiss. The beginning in the middle near the end of their single lives.Marriage.It wasn’t something she’d craved or expected.Yet with Rourke, it made sense. It just was.

“Xavie,” she whispered, trying to take her mouth back.

But he wasn’t done and rolled to his side, managing to squash her between him and the back of the couch.“How many times you dream about this?”The deep murmur of his voice closed in around her, holding her as tight as his body.“When we were on Huddle, watching movies…”

“I didn’t think we’d ever know each other in real life. This was never supposed to—timeout.”Twice in one day, hopefully it wasn’t a sign of things to come.“You turned me on, I denied it then, most of the time but, I don’t know how I ever lived without you.”

The slant of his lips was less smug than normal, and he tucked her hair away from her eyes.“I wanted to meet you.I wanted you.But I had no idea it would be this.No idea you were… We shouldn’t have lived without each other, and we won’t ever again.”

They’d both see to that.Marriage would see to that.Walking away wouldn’t be so easy when they had an official signed contract tying them to each other.

“That sounds like a challenge. You want me to run?”
