“I want to start off by saying that there are no two people in the world that I think belong together, and I’m thankful you two found each other.” He turned to me. “I’m toasting today to the very last thing I’ll want to see you plan, your own wedding.”

“Thank you, that means a lot to us.” Scott focused on me for a moment before turning back to Ron. “And thank you for being part of what brought us together,” he swallowed, “Dad.”

Ron looked down, a smile escaped him.

I stood, saving Ron from any words. “Thank you, but I will most definitely be hiring a planner for this one. Except for the invitations…that’s all me. And the venue, of course, and guest list, favors, music—that’s important.” I gasped. “This would be great for my column, planning my own wedding…you know what, I’ll just do it all myself.”

Ron laughed, “No one will do it better.” He looked at Scott thoughtfully. “I’ll leave you two to celebrate.”

Scott wrapped an arm around me once Ron had gone. “Speaking of invitations, have you given any thought about visiting your parents soon?”

Talking with my mother had been no different, but I no longer felt as affected by her cynicism. Then again, I told her very little about my new life with Scott.

“I suppose I could accept their invitation to Thanksgiving.”

Scott cleared his throat. “Remember, you won’t be alone.”

“I know. And that’s the only thing I’m going to be thankful for this year.”

The End.
