He didn’t let me finish. He crushed me in his arms like he never meant to let me go.
“Are you happy about it?” I whispered, afraid to look up.
He pulled back just enough to cradle my face in his hands. “Am I happy? Brittany, I’m over the damn moon.”
Relief hit me like a landslide and the tears came hard and fast.
“Hey,” he murmured, thumbs brushing them away. “What’s wrong, baby?”
“I’m just glad you’re glad. I know it will change everything.”
“Damn right, it will.” His voice cracked with emotion. “It’ll make everything better.”
I gave a shaky laugh. “I’ll remind you of that statement when you’re walking the floors at two o’clock in the morning with a colicky baby.”
He hugged me to him. “Our daughter will be perfect.”
I sighed nestling closer to him. “She will to you. And who’s to say it won’t be a boy.”
“Or both. Eventually.” He kissed the top of my head. “I want a family with you. As many babies as you want. I’ll take care of you.”
“I know.” I raised my face for a kiss and got the most tender kiss he’d ever given me. “You really want this.”
“I want everything with you, Brittany. Always have. Always will.”
Two years ago, I hadn’t known where I belonged.
Now?
Now I had a husband who loved me. A home tucked away on top of a mountain. And a baby on the way.
Turns out, I hadn’t just found my wild side—it had led me home.
