Ash's eyes frantically flashed from one baby to the next, and Mason's hand tightened on my knee.
"They're fine, I promise. It was just a paternity test." I gave them a bright smile. "And guess what? Dr. Myers said that each of you is a 99% match to each of the pups!"
They stared at me without blinking.
"You'realltheir fathers," I tried again.
When it finally sank in, Wyatt jumped up and down and pumped his fist in the air.
"Yes!"
The babies didn't even flinch.
Used to their loud daddies already, I guess,I thought with amusement.
"Pay up, Ash!" Jayden grinned.
"Yeah, man, you owe each of us a grand," Cole chuckled.
"Youbeton it?" My jaw dropped.
I didn't know why I was surprised. It would have been more shocking if theyhadn'tbet on something about the pups' birth. I knew all about the betas' pool on which of my mates would faint.
Hmm I wonder if Mason's controlled descent will count. I'll have to ask Em or Ty.
"He was convinced he'd be the father since he mated you first." Mason elbowed Ash, who only grinned and scrubbed the back of his neck with one hand.
"Even if theywereAsh's, we would have loved the pups just as much," Wyatt said with a smirk.
Ash ignored him and leaned down to adjust Caspian, who had started to slide off to one side.
"Isaid," Wyatt taunted, "even if theywereyours, Ash-hole, we would have loved them just the same."
"There's no need to repeat yourself, dickhead," Ash grumbled. "I ignored you just fine the first time."
"Well, since you stayed silent, I wasn't sure you heard me." Wyatt stuck his tongue out at him.
"My silence doesn't mean I agree or disagree with you, douche canoe. It means your level of ignorance has rendered me speechless."
"Do you think before you speak, or are you as surprised as the rest of us by what ends up coming out of your mouth?"
"Oh, did I push your buttons? Sorry, I was looking for mute."
"Dude! Put an 'out of order' sticker on your forehead and call it a day."
"Off is the general direction in which I wish you would fuck."
Two loud smacks rang through the room.
"Owie!" Ash yipped while Wyatt demanded, "What the hell was that for?"
"No arguing and cursing in front of the pups!" Cole and Mason said in unison.
Jayden snickered at Ash and Wyatt for getting into trouble, and I shook my head with a dimpled smile.
My boys. Even though they were fathers now, they were never going to change.
And I wouldn't have it any other way.
