I rest my head on his shoulder, humming in appreciation. I never get tired of hearing him call me that. Sure, I willingly relinquished the title to Lilly, I mean how could I not? But that doesn’t change the fact I love being called that and I love how he still treats me like I’m his entire world every day. I don’t know how a heart that big fits into his chest, as big and burly and still very hot as it is.
“You ready for dinner with Tanner and V tonight? They should be getting back from their trip to Big Sky any minute.”
He laughs and rubs my shoulder. “Oh to be child free. They’re always somewhere, aren’t they?”
I hum in amusement. “Yeah, but they’re happy and that’s all that matters.”
He rests his head on top of mine and we both watch as the kids make their way down the slopes.
“They’re something else.”
He nods in agreement. “They sure are.”
Days like this are when I find myself thinking that I’m the luckiest woman on earth to have a life like this. Sure, I eventually didsettle down, get married, and have two and a half kids, but this is far from the cookie cutter life I thought I was supposed to live. Nothing about this is settling. We make sure of that every day, still passionately pushing each other’s buttons, still being extra, still being exactly and perfectly us.
That’s how I know we will never fall apart.
