We all spend the rest of the night eating and talking, and it really hits me: I'm surrounded by all but one of the most important people in my life, and I genuinely couldn't be happier.

And more than that,I finally feel like I deserve it all.

As if Kai and I being drafted for the same co-ed NHL team wasn’t already a fucking miracle, a long-lost aunt of my mom’s passed away and left hereverything. My parents have lived frugally my entire life, and getting to see them ditch their shitty jobs, and move to be closer to Liam, Kai, and me is more than I could have ever imagined for my future.

And now, sitting in my favorite restaurant surrounded by my favorite people, my heart feels like it’ll explode with joy and gratitude.

They say you can’t pick your family, but if I had to do it all over again with the option of picking, I wouldn’t change a single thing. My friends, parents, brother, and of course, myfiancéarethe most special people, and I’m so blessed to have them in my world.

I can’t wait for what the future holds for us.
