“The Ocala chapter has vanished, too. But they left a dead body in their wake. Our informant,” Leila replied, biting her lip.

“Get the allies. We need to be on guard. Fury is coming.”

I stared out of the window in Drake’s office.

Fury was coming. His chapters were starting to disappear, which meant only one thing. Fury was putting his vanguard in place. Drake had informed us half an hour ago.

Demi squealed, although I couldn’t hear it. Ice had just caught her and dumped snow down her neck. The scene should have made me smile, but it sent a cold shiver down my spine.

When Evie disappeared, I thought my world ended until thirteen years later, when my grandson had approached me. The horrors he brought with him would have broken any kid his age. Instead, Deke worked to save his family. Evie and my grandchildren had experienced the very worst Fury could do.

Demi hadn’t. We’d made sure of that. And I wanted my grandbaby to grow up and not lose that. But it hadn’t happened. Demi had learnt the circumstances of her birth, and now, when she was happy and settled, Fury was destroying everything again.

The day I sank a bullet into his head should be a national fuckin’ holiday.
