I set the napkin down. “I think it’s a bit suspicious. I mean the guys get wrapped up in all this stuff, we get back into town, and suddenly someone’s interested in joining? Doesn’t make much sense.”

Hope pointed at me. “I knew I liked you for a reason.”

The waitress interrupted us. “Here’s your wine, ma’am. And your food will be up in a few minutes. Can I get you guys anything else?”

Joanna smiled. “I’m good but thank you.”

The girls nodded in agreement and the waitress left us alone. So, we quickly dove back into the conversation.

“Has anyone seen the new prospect?” Hannah whispered.

Joanna shook her head. “I haven’t, no.”

Hope sipped her soda. “I know he’s got a name. But that’s all I know.”

I looked over at her. “What’s the guy’s name?”

She paused. “Chains.”

Joanna blinked. “Chains?”

Hannah wrinkled her nose. “What kind of name is that?”

Joanna leaned back. “A fake one, that’s what that is.”

I shrugged. “I don’t know. Maybe his momma hated him.”

Hannah giggled. “Or maybe it’s a nickname from school or something?”

Hope smiled. “Or maybe it’s a nickname from one of his ex’s. Maybe dating him is like being chained to your worst nightmare.”

I barked with laughter. “Why do I get the feeling you’re speaking from experience.”

Hope licked her lips. “I mean not with him, but…”

Our laughter kicked up again as our food touched down in front of us, and the smell watered my mouth. Not only that, though, but it gave me a chance to really reflect. I looked around the bar at the happy patrons. I saw the bartender slinging drinks with a smile on his face and waitresses walking around and making small talk with everyone in the bar. This place felt like home. Being here with these girls felt like home. And the idea that I’d leave here to go with JayJay back to a place I already knew as home?

Life couldn’t get any better than this.
