I whipped around. “Please tell me you’ve found—”

He nodded. “Both Knuckles and Ash. And yes, they’re fine. A little worse for wear, but both of them got jumped when they tried to come check in on Hope. All of it was staged. That fucker’s been a step in front of us this entire time.”

Hope whimpered and I wrapped my arm around her.

“We can talk later. Right now, I want to get her in to see a—”

“Doctor?”

Link smiled as a strange man charged into the room. He had a briefcase at his side along with a doctor’s bag and a stethoscope around his neck. He motioned for Hope to sit on the bed and I sat with her, holding her trembling little hand the entire time. I felt terrible for her. I felt so horrible that I didn’t see this coming. And as the doctor unraveled the tape from her wrist, blood started pouring forth again.

“I’m going to numb, disinfect, and stitch. You’ll feel a lot of pressure, but it shouldn’t hurt past the initial numbing. Okay?” the doctor asked.

Hope nodded and I watched the man nimbly work while my arm held her tight against my body.

After half an hour of the doctor patching her up, all of us moved away from the room. A couple of the prospects from the Red Pythons came inside and started cleaning things up while Link helped us to gather our things. We walked all the way down to the corner bedroom nearest to the main road and were ushered into what the girls called a “motel suite.”

Which was essentially the same room, but with a small kitchenette as well.

“Hey, Link?” I asked.

I turned around to look at him, but he waved his hand at me.

“We can talk in the morning over some strong coffee. But I’ve still got some loose ends to tie up on my end. Breakfast at eight. Until then, though, you two get some rest.”

“I’m so sorry. I should’ve seen it coming,” Hope said.

“No,” Link and I said in unison.

Hope’s eyes looked up at my own before I kissed her forehead.

“None of this is your fault. Got it?”

And even though she nodded, I could tell she didn’t quite believe me.

“Call me if you two need anything at all. And in the meantime, I’m recalling all of the guys. Something isn’t right about this scenario, and we need to figure out what it is,” Link said.

I nodded. “I agree.”

Hope sighed. “Will you let Joanna know I’m okay?”

Link chuckled. “It’s cute that you think she knows what’s going on right now.”

She paused. “On second thought, ignorance is best with her.”

Link nodded. “Yep.”

Hope giggled. “Complete and total ignorance.”

Link shot me one last glance before he left our room, closing the door behind him. I walked over to the door and locked every single lock the damn thing had to afford, then I pulled out my weapons. I put my gun and its extra ammunition on my bedside table. I slid one of my knives underneath my pillow. I put another knife on the bathroom countertop and slipped my taser into Hope’s bedside table. I felt her watching me as I moved around. I felt her eyes lingering on me as I stripped myself of my sweaty clothes.

Then, I faced her with nothing but my boxers on.

“Hey there, handsome,” she said, giggling.

My eyes found hers. “I’m so fucking glad you’re all right.”

She stood. “So am I. How did you know I’d be there?”

I cupped her cheek. “I didn’t. And I’m not sure what I hate myself for the most.”

She nuzzled against my palm. “Don’t hate yourself, Bowser. You could have never known.”

“I should have known. That’s the whole point. We all should’ve seen this coming, yet we—”

When she threw herself at me, I expected a hug. But what I got was the most amazing kiss I’d ever been graced with by any woman. Her tongue fell against my own as my arms blanketed her back. Her soft curves melded against my muscles as her back arched those breasts against my own chest. My head fell off to the side. I walked her back to the bed. And when the two of us collapsed together against the mattress, I raised my head. Staring down into those wondrous, swirling eyes.

“I love you,” I said.

Her eyes widened. “What?”

I tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. “I love you, Hope.”

She blinked. “Are you being serious right now?”

I smoothed my thumb over her cheek. “Very, very serious.”

Her hand cupped the back of my head. “Oh, Bowser. I love you, too. So, so fucking much.”

And when our lips collided again, my cock sprung to life.

Before her hips rolled against my own.20Hope“Oh, fuck. Bowser.”

I bucked against his face as I quickly awakened to the feeling of his tongue between my legs.

“Yes. Yes. Shit. Bowser. So good. So good to me.”
