“She looked as if she was having fun. She was helping me behind the bar. Getting to know people.”

“She was scared.”

“At first, sure, like you said—this was all new to her. But I think she could really fit in here. She’s stronger than you think she is.”

I stared at Sophie. Why was she doing this? Why was she talking about Sabrina?

“I have other shit to deal with right now,” I growled and turned away.

“Like, Eagle?”

“I’m going to check on him.”

“Spike…he is not your problem.”

“Yes he is!” I shouted as I walked away.

“You should let the others deal with him.”

I was about to say something more but I didn’t bother to. Sophie was just being nosy. This was none of her concern. I wanted Eagle to face me and I wanted answers. He’d been fucking with us for too long and I wanted him to pay for it.There were two prospects standing guard at the cellar door when I got there. When they saw me walking determinedly toward them, they moved apart. I didn’t have to give them a reason to make way. I opened the door and stepped in.

This was the same place where Crash had been held when he was going through his withdrawal from heroin. The heroin that Eagle got him hooked on.

While Crash had been lying helpless and sick on the single bed in the corner of the room, Eagle was sitting, facing the wall like a madman.

He heard the door shut behind me but didn’t turn to look. Somehow, he knew it was me.

“I was wondering when you’d show up,” he said as I walked toward him. Even though I couldn’t see his face, I knew I would see pure evil if he was looking at me. This man had no shred of humanity or justice in his system.

I clenched my fists and jaws, trying to hold back the rush of frustration and rage I felt toward him.

“What do you have to say for yourself?” I growled. He finally looked, over his shoulder at me. There were some marks on his face, purple and blue, and they were healing. No blood. Even though our guys had been rough with him—I was rough with him—when he was captured and brought here, he hadn’t been as badly hurt as he could have been.

“What do you want me to do, man? Apologize?” he said and turned to me fully.

“You have an explanation for all the shit?”

“Nope,” he replied and had the fuckin’ audacity to smile. A sneering sick smile spread across his face that made me want to punch him.

I took a step toward him and Eagle thrust his chin out aggressively.

“What happened that night you attacked me?” I growled.

Eagle shrugged.

“You can’t expect me to remember every time I bothered to interact with you guys. This isn’t a fuckin’ romance.”

He made himself chuckle as if this was some big joke.

I stepped closer to him and still, he didn’t flinch or move. It was as if he didn’t give a shit what I did to him.

“You put a knife in me.”

“And you’re still here. Or am I hallucinating?”

“I found you in the woods, hiding out.”

He shrugged again. That night was still a blank space in my head and I wanted to know what happened. I wanted to figure out how I managed to let him slip away.

“And what about Crash? You got the President of your MC hooked on drugs you knew would affect his ability to lead.”

“I didn’t want to actually overthrow him like some medieval knight.”

“So you wanted everyone else to decide he was an unfit leader.”

Eagle was looking at me, still smiling faintly.

“Good thing you guys brought me back here because I wouldn’t have stopped. I won’t stop until I get what I want, and I might just put your new hot-tits on that list,” he said with a low snarly voice.

That was it.

He shouldn’t have mentioned Sabrina.I threw myself at him and he held his hands up defensively. I grabbed him by the neck and threw him to the floor. I couldn’t see anything but a raging red flame in front of my eyes. Every ounce of anger and frustration I had ever felt for anybody or anything; all came streaming out of me.

Eagle was my punching bag and what made it worse was the incessant laughter. That was when I knew he was crazy. With every punch, he laughed even harder, like he was enjoying this somehow.

“You stay the fuck away from her,” I growled and pinned him down to the ground as I punched him again.

“Her pussy that sweet?” he chuckled, with blood trickling down his nose. The bruises on his face looked even darker now. I snarled like a wild animal and punched him again. The air was knocked out of his lungs but Eagle laughed again. This was funny to him.
