But now he was carrying me out of the Clubhouse. We were headed for the parking lot where his bike was parked.

I didn’t want to ask him too many questions because I had a feeling I wasn’t getting any answers from him.

Something overtook me to act that way. To put on the makeup and try and lure other men. I guess I wanted to make Flash jealous, to make him feel like he had to work for me. But why?

What were we doing? Why did it matter?

He made me sit on his bike behind him and I wrapped my arms around him. The truth was I felt happiest and most carefree when we were riding together. When I had him this close to me. I breathed in the musky scent of his leather jacket and thrilled in the idea that he was taking me somewhere. He said he was going to surprise me again. I had no idea where it could possibly be.

But a part of me was glad he was jealous. That he didn’t ignore my efforts. Maybe I would have one more night with him. Who knew what the next day had in store for me? Maybe he’d just expect me to leave and make my own way from here, but maybe we’d have one more night together. Maybe that would be enough.

We were riding for some time before Flash swerved into a driveway lit up by a few bright tall lamps. It looked like the driveway of someone’s house. Someone fancy.

“What are we doing here?” I yelled into his ear over the roar of the bike engine. Wouldn’t all this sound wake up the inhabitants of the house?

Flash stopped the bike, parking it right at the foot of the steps that led up to the big glass doors. I was hesitant to even get off the bike. A little worried now that he was going to get us into trouble.

“You coming?” he asked, heading up the steps.

“Are you going to give me an explanation?” I hissed, swinging my leg over the bike so I could get off.

“I thought we didn’t owe each other an explanation,” he said with a smirk. Then I watched in awe as he pulled out a key from his jacket pocket and unlocked the door smoothly. It was a beautiful red-brick townhouse and I had no idea what we were doing in there. I followed him up the steps because I didn’t know what else to do and then he shut the door behind me.

“Welcome to my humble abode,” he said with a smirk.

“Your abode? Your humble abode?” I remarked with a laugh. He couldn’t be serious, right?

“It is mine indeed. Not like I spend a whole lotta time here,” he said and led me down the hallway. It was dark and he started switching on the lights. He seemed to know his way around the place, and now it was beginning to seem less like a joke and more of a reality. Could this really be Flash’s house?

“Wow!” I stopped at the entrance into the living room. A big crystal chandelier hung above us and a marble-topped table was arranged with a vase full of fresh flowers. “Somehow, I just can’t picture you picking these flowers to decorate your house with.”

Flash grinned. “No, I didn’t. I didn’t pick any of this. I hired someone and they made it look like the cover page of some homemaker’s magazine.”

He went into the living room and I followed him there too. He was right. This home did belong in a magazine. I’d never stepped foot in a place like this before. I still couldn’t believe I was here.

“And before you ask, I don’t maintain the place either. I have a housekeeper. I rarely ever see her. She keeps out of my way but keeps this place looking good. That’s our arrangement.”

I stood at the doorway, watching as he flung his jacket on a beautiful cream-colored couch. I gulped. I hadn’t anticipated how wealthy Flash was. He didn’t look like he belonged inside this place. He was like an elephant in a China store. Too tall, too strong, too rough around the edges to belong to a place like this. And yet, he seemed perfectly comfortable here.

I breathed in deeply and looked at him.

“Is this another one of your bedding tactics?” I asked.

“Bedding tactic?” He still had that grin on his face. It made him look dangerously playful and handsome at the same time. He was taking short and slow steps toward me and I was beginning to feel like my breath was stuck in my throat.

“You know? To get more women to sleep with you. Bringing them back here so they’re awed by the magnificence of your home.” I bit down on my lip. Flash came to stand directly over me. Big and overpowering. I gazed at his bulging biceps, the tattoos. What gave me the courage to talk to him like that?
