She didn’t ask why, and I didn’t mention that the mayor was in the middle of a deal with us to develop the strip. I didn’t mention that part of the deal was we would have exclusive rights for the foreseeable future to pick the patrols that worked our blocks.
“Sure. Whatever you need. Maybe it’s worth a date to the reception later tonight? Assuming you’re going,” she stated, pulling out the guy’s intestines.
I nodded and watched her work. Fascinating how gentle she was digging into a dead man’s gut.
“Yeah, I’ll be there. Cas wouldn’t be okay if his best man ditched. I’m heading to City Hall with Zeid in a few for the ceremony. They wanted a quick, simple wedding and then a party to end all parties. Let me know when you’re tearing into the mayor?”
I pulled out my phone.
“What’s your number actually?”
She smirked.
“Are you hitting on me?”
I shrugged.
“I could. But right now? I was just going to text you so you had my number. This way you don’t have to put down his, well, whatever that is.”
She nodded and rattled off her number, and I turned to walk away after I sent her a message.
“See you tonight then?” she called after me.
I glanced over my shoulder.
“Yeah. See you tonight, I’m much more lively than this crowd. I promise you. Text me your address, and I’ll stop by and pick you up. I can’t turn down a request like that.”
She smiled back at me, and I walked out. I had to go walk Rylee down the aisle.
