Forcing a smile, he glanced at the clock. “Ah, just in time, I was just about to call you.”
Her answering smile almost made him feel guilty.
Almost.
He’d never made his situation with Sophie anything more than what it was – great fucking sex. Not once had he given her the wrong impression or false hope. She’d offered herself up on a plate and he had accepted the invitation.
Sex with Erica wasn’t lacking. They had a healthy and exciting relationship that included plenty of time between the sheets. They could communicate their needs with one another and weren’t shy about exploring new kinks.
But there were certain things he just didn’t want to ask her for.
Erica was his wife. He loved and respected her more than anything in this world. Asking to spit in her mouth while he railed her was an abhorrent thought for him.
But Sophie was a dirty, nasty girl.
She loved all the filthiest, most degrading shit his brain could come up with. He could reduce her to nothing more than a cum slut and she would still come running, begging for more.
It’s what he liked about her.
But anything beyond that? Absolutely not. She was decent enough at her job and fun to flirt with. That’s where it ended for him.
Unfortunately, he noticed a shift in her behaviour. He was almost certain she had worn that abomination around her neck to make him jealous. An impossible feat since he didn’t care enough to feel jealousy.
“Where are we going for lunch?” She asked, tucking her hair behind her ear.
He admired her for a moment, enjoying the sight of her ass in such a tight skirt. She was a beautiful-looking woman, but beyond her appearance, she had nothing to offer in the way of substance.
“Wherever you like,” he replied, finally standing and grabbing his coat. “You’re the birthday girl, after all.”
Why, oh why, had he agreed to this damn lunch?
Her excitable little squeal only reinforced the fact that he didn’t really enjoy her company outside of sex. He got a thrill flirting at her desk, but one-on-one time over a meal did not sound fun.
“Do you have a place in mind?” He asked as he ushered her out of the office, guiding her towards the exit with his hand on the small of her back.
“Giovanni’s,” she whispered, her eyes alight with anticipation. Alex suppressed an eye roll as she named the most expensive Italian place in the city.
It confirmed something he had long suspected about her.
Sophie was probably far more interested in his money than she was in him. Her ego would never allow her to admit that, but it was evident in her actions, even if she didn’t realise it.
“Giovanni’s sounds wonderful,” he said as they reached the elevator. He lied. Giovanni’s was subpar Italian made by a bloke from Glasgow named Terry.
But Alex felt like this was an important lesson for Sophie to learn. More money did not mean better.
They entered the elevator, and the mood shifted. Sophie smirked up at him, swaying towards him.
“Not right now, Soph,” he warned, nodding towards the camera pointed in their direction.
“We’ve done it in here before,” she reminded him. “And it was really fucking hot.”
“Yes. When the building was empty, and the guard wasn’t watching the monitors. There’s time for that later. Just behave yourself.”
Sophie crossed her arms over her chest and pouted. He rolled his eyes and ignored her, waiting until the elevator rumbled to a stop on their floor before speaking.
“If you’re going to continue to sulk, we’ll take this lift right back up to the office.”
“I’m not sulking,” she protested. “I’m just trying to figure out when—”
