Once she finally had control of herself, she straightened up, her hands firm on the counter to steady herself.
There had to be a mistake. No way she was the intended recipient of this letter. No fucking way. Because if she was, it meant her entire life was a lie. That everything she believed in and trusted was nothing but a facade.
A sham.
She reached for the envelope, turning it over in her hands.
Mrs Erica Carr.
Whoever had sent this not only knew her name, but where she lived. It had to be someone she knew personally, and she couldn’t think of one person who would try to hurt her in this way.
She had to read it again. Maybe everything would be okay, and she was overreacting.
Or maybe, just maybe, every single word was true, and Erica’s world was about to implode.
Taking a breath, she unfolded the sheets of paper and smoothed them over the counter.
Whispering as she read, Erica forced herself to finish the entire thing.
“You don’t know me, and I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but your husband is sleeping with my wife.”
Chapter 7
Alex
“I still can’t believe you fucked her in the office.”
Alex tightened his hands on the steering wheel and held his tongue. His head had been pounding all day, and he was positive Sophie’s nagging was the culprit.
“Did you not think about me or how it would make me feel?”
Huh. Well gee, that question was a toughie. Did he think about his side piece while screwing his wife?
No. No, of course he didn’t. Why would he?
It took Sophie forty-nine seconds after the London Group had left that morning to corner Alex and beg to see him in his office.
He’d been counting because he knew it was coming.
The entire meeting, she stared daggers at him, huffing and puffing despite the importance of their conference. Something had spooked the London Group, and he couldn’t figure out what. His entire staff should have been worried. They were his biggest client and losing them would mean cutbacks.
But no. Sophie was more concerned about where he was putting his dick.
“Alex? Are you even listening?”
Holding back a sigh, Alex glanced in Sophie’s direction.
She was a beautiful girl; it had to be said.
Long blonde hair cascaded down her back in soft curls and framed a sun-kissed face so lovely it was almost sinful.
Her skin was flawless, not one sign of ageing dulling the youthful glow. Her eyes were enticing, framed by long lashes.
She put a lot of work into that face. He knew because he’d paid for some of it. Botox (that she didn’t need), lip fillers (that she did need), and fake lashes were all part of her regular beauty regime.
Sophie cared a little too much about her appearance. It was why she only drank the stupidly expensive bottled water and counted every calorie that passed her lips.
It was working for her.
