Epilogue
Two Years Later
“Next timeI say I need some pain to help me straighten out my mind, you remind me of this.”
Dominic wanted to chuckle, but he didn’t dare. Nobody laughed at a woman in the throes of childbirth and lived to tell about it.
He bent down to wipe his beloved wife’s hair out of her eyes, and kissed her on the forehead. “Deal.”
Not that she’d been needing pain to help center herself lately. His love, knowing she was the very cornerstone of everything in his universe, had done much more for centering her than pain ever had. Now spanking tended to be for purely recreational and very hot reasons.
He smiled at her. “You can do this, Cass. You’re the strongest and most amazing woman I’ve ever known and I love you.” He’d been telling her that every day for two years and would be telling her that every day for the next fifty.
Another contraction seized her. “Don’t you smile at me, you bastard. It’s your fault I’m in this situation.”
Now he couldn’t help but chuckle. “Actually, I would like to blame the doctor who said you were incapable of conceiving. If we’d known there was a possibility we could’ve used protection.”
Her eyes clouded as she breathed through the rest of the contraction. “Would you have? Wanted to wait? Not have kids?”
He kissed her. “I want this miracle baby and any others we have. I know the chances of you conceiving again aren’t high, so if this is our only one, that’s okay.”
She nodded.
“Of course,” he continued, “I still plan to have sex with you as often as possible, so I fully expect we’ll beat the odds.”
The smile she gave him was the most beautiful thing he’d ever seen. She was the most beautiful thing he’d ever seen.
“We’ve beaten the odds more than once.”
He knew she wasn’t just talking about this pregnancy. He kissed her. His wife, his forever, his everything. “And we always will.”
