I shrug as my stomach rumbles. "I’m fine. I had a big breakfast."

"Uh-huh." Frankie shakes his head, not buying it. "And how long ago was that?"

"I don't know." A while.

"That settles it then." Frankie claps his hands together and then reaches for my hand. "We're going to the dining room and we're gonna have lunch together. It's been a while since we've done that."

"Yeah, it has." River’s eyes light up at this unexpected mid-day lunch date.

"Alright, fine." I hold up my hands in surrender, unwilling to disappoint my omega…or my alphas. "Let's go eat."

We walk back to the main compound together, talking and laughing as we enjoy each other's company. Things are going well, and our pack is thriving. Just a few months ago, I never believed I’d want to be in a pack again, much less mated to the leader.

But here we are, happier than we’ve ever been.

We've come a long way since we first met River. And even though I was struggling at first, I do feel as if I finally figured out how I fit into our pack. I'm not just a strong alpha, I'm a provider. I'm someone who can take care of my loved ones and keep them safe.

And I'm proud of that.

RIVER

"Why can't I just go to my office for a few hours?" I whine as Devon moves around the living room and tucks a blanket around my shoulders. "There's so much to do."

"And your dad said he can handle it for now." Devon sits on the floor and begins to gently massage my feet. "You need to relax."

"I don't want to relax." I huff, frowning at him. "I want to work."

"I know, baby." He smiles, always indulgent of me. "But you're in no condition to be working right now. You can't even tie your own shoes."

"That's not true." It totally is, but I’m not willing to admit it yet. Or ever. “Besides, I’ve been wearing slip-ons for the past month."

Devon chuckles. "But you can't reach them to put them on."

"I just need to slip my feet into them, hence the name." I blow out another annoyed breath and then hold my middle. "It’s just cuz my belly is in the way."

"I know, baby. But that's why we're here. To take care of you."

I'm being childish, and I know I need to relax for the sake of the baby. Just a few more weeks left until the birth, but until then, it’s not easy being a huge, waddling mess.

Devon looks smug when I don’t have a good rebuttal. Pregnancy brain, I guess. "Now, sit back and relax. I'm gonna make you some tea."

"Fine." I sigh, sinking back into the couch. "But I'm not happy about it."

"Duly noted.” Devon smiles at me before dropping a kiss on my cheek. "But I'm gonna make you feel better."

"Whatever." I close my eyes, resting them for just a moment.

Devon returns a few minutes later with a cup of tea and a plate of cookies. "Here you go. Drink up."

"Thank you." I grab the cup of tea and sip it slowly, feeling a little sheepish as I look up at him. "Sorry for being a brat."

"It's okay." He cuddles up beside me and puts an arm around my shoulders. "I know you're just stressed."

"Yeah." I lean against him and sigh. "I am. There's so much to do. So many decisions to make. And I'm so fucking tired all the time."

He rubs my shoulder and presses his lips to my temple. "I know, sweetheart, but you're doing great. And you’re gonna be a great dad."
