“About giving her grandkids? You know how she is, beautiful. There’s no pressure whatsoever.”
“I know,” I say with a shrug. “I mean, we’ve practiced plenty. May as well, right?”
“Is that what you want? To have my babies?” There’s a smile in his voice, and I lean my head back onto his shoulder to kiss his cheek.
“I used to think that I didn’t want kids. But now… I think I’ve changed my mind. Besides, it’s no longer up to me.”
“What do you mean?” he asks, shifting around me a bit so he can better look me in my face, his confusion evident. I smile, so that he knows everything is okay, and take his hand, laying it over my stomach.
“We’re going to be a lot more busy soon enough, so your mom better have meant what she said. No take backsies on grandparent duty.”
“You’re pregnant,” he whispers, eyes widening.
“I am.”
“But-how? I thought—“
“I thought so, too. Turns out, when I had my IUD replaced, it didn’t sit where it should have and kind of went on a journey…” I shrug helplessly.
“But everything is okay? Neither of you is hurt?”
I can’t help but smile, tears building in my eyes at his concern for the tiny life I’m carrying in my belly. “We’re both fine, but it’s still early so we shouldn’t tell everyone yet, just in case.”
He pulls me close, pressing a kiss to my hair, then to my cheek, then to my nose. I giggle as he continues to rain kisses across my face until he finally pulls me close and just holds me.
“You’ve made this the best day ever. I love you, wife. I can’t wait for the rest of our life together and watching our babies grow.”
“Babies, husband? Plural?”
“Like you said, we’ve had plenty of practice, so we may as well.”
I snort. “The more there are, the harder it will be to make time for practice.”
“Just one then,” he quickly corrects, and I grin.
“Smart man. Priorities in check.”
He pulls me to him for a kiss, and I melt under his touch, letting time slip away until he pulls back and leans his forehead against mine so he can stare into my eyes. “Forever, kitten. Always.”
