“I only need protecting from you, and you’re going away.” My voice is strange. Angry. In pain. I don’t know. The words gnaw at something inside me. To compensate for the tone and the emotions riding it, I agree. “I will protect him.”

“Well,” he laughs sadly. “Seems you’re not the girl I thought you were. You’re a hell of a lot more.”

He pushes off from the wall, and I inhale deeply, sucking in the air his presence was effortlessly squeezing from me.

He walks to the bedroom door. “You haven’t posted in a few days, Pup.” He looks over his shoulder. “What will your followers think?”

I can’t move from the wall, feeling stuck, glued with emotion. My legs threaten to give way if I try.

Biting my bottom lip to stop it from wobbling, I shrug sadly. “Maybe they’ll think that I’ve been kidnapped.”

“Aint life funny.”

Then he leaves the room.
