“Since we can’t drink and I don’t want soda, is it okay if we get some ice cream?” Lucas asks.

Dominic nods his head. “Sure. Take the little ones and make sure they’re safe.”

“You’re such a dad,” Marcus says, shoving a piece of meat in his mouth. “You’re acting like the kids don’t have bodyguards following them everywhere.”

“Mommy!” Mariana runs to Isabella. “Can we get some cotton candy?”

“Just one, and share with your brother and cousins, okay?” Isabella pats Mariana’s hair.

Mariana giggles and runs off with her brother and cousins.

“They’re so cute,” Jane says, smiling widely.

“You’re not drinking,” Isabella says, narrowing her eyes suspiciously.

“That’s because I have something to share with all of you.” She and Marcus share a look. “I’m pregnant.”

Isabella and Elena gasp. Dominic and I gape at her in disbelief.

“You’re really going to be a mother?” Elena asks. I’m certain it’s the same question on all of our minds.

Jane confirms with a nod. “We’re three months pregnant. Marcus and I wanted to wait until the end of the first trimester before breaking the news.”

“We’re so happy for you,” Isabella says.

I shake Marcus’ hand. “Congrats, man.”

Dominic does the same.

“It’s all thanks to Isabella. She connected us with the fertility doctor who helped us.” She turns her gaze to Isabella. “Thank you.”

Isabella raises herself to hug Jane. “I’m so happy for you. I can’t believe we’re about to have a new addition to the family.”

“Is it a girl or a boy?” Elena asks.

“A boy,” Marcus says.

“He’s going to be a real lucky kid to have you two as parents,” Isabella tells them.

“We’re the lucky ones,” Marcus replies.

I hold up my glass. “Cheers to Marcus and Jane becoming parents.”

“Cheers,” everyone says in unison.

We eat and chat for the rest of the afternoon. Isabella and I stay back after everyone has left. Marcus and Jane offered to babysit the twins for the night.

“We need to practice on how to be parents before our son is born,” they’d said.

Isabella and I lie on our backs, watching the cloak of stars in the sky. A very bright star moves quickly in the sky.

“It’s a shooting star,” Isabella says. She turns her head to look at me. “We should make a wish. What do you wish for?”

“To spend the rest of my life with you and the kids,” I answer. I wrap my arm around her and pull her close. “Your turn.”

“I want this happiness to last forever,” she says. Isabella looks at me with sparkling eyes. “I want our love to last beyond a lifetime.”

I look at my wife, she’s beautiful under the moonlight. She’s my shooting star and I wouldn’t wish for anything or anyone else. “I love you, Isabella. I’ll love you in a million lifetimes.”

She smiles. “I love you too, husband.”
