Anders grabbed my chin with his fingers and turned my head, forcing our gazes to meet again. “No, Melanie. Before all, you’re an insanely attractive woman. No wonder my brother has gone mad for you. I would, too.” His eyes bore into mine. “Tell me…” He nibbled his bottom lip, his head involuntarily cocking to the side, his nefarious gaze scanning every inch of my face before our eyes locked again. “Was he so good in bed that the sight of him makes you weak in your knees, or do you still have feelings for him?”

“That’s enough,” I hissed. I couldn’t believe my ears. I knew Anders was twisted and wicked, but this was a whole new level of crazy. “You’re so jealous of your brother. It’s sick.”

Anders’ smirk only grew bigger. It seemed… diabolical. Something savage flickered in his eyes. “There’s nothing to be jealous of, baby.” A sarcastic smirk played on his lips. “I’m far better than my brother, and I can prove it to you,” he whispered, teasing my ear lobe with the edge of his teeth. “I can fuck you better.”

“You’re sick.” I was repulsed by his audacity. His twistedness and wickedness.

He lightly pulled away, his hands still resting on both sides of his desk, still keeping me hostage. “I’m just different,” he stated, locking eyes with mine. “You see, it doesn’t bother me that you used to be with my brother.” Leaning in, he whispered into my ear, his fingers sliding over my neck, pulling me closer. “On the contrary, the thought of proving to you that I’m better than him turns me on.”

“Okay, I’m done.” I forcefully pushed him away and made my way toward the door. I threw a parting shot over my shoulder. “You should see a doctor.”

Anders was quick to catch up. He grabbed my arm, positioning himself behind me. He tugged me closer, and the warmth of his body brushed against my back. Running his fingers through my hair, he brushed them off my ear. His breath swept down my neck, his voice a sinister whisper.

“Think about it, Melanie. We could be so good together. And I—” He leaned in, his lips grazing my neck. “I could fulfill your deepest, darkest sexual desires like no other man, not even him, my brother.”

I stood there speechless. Rooted to the spot. Anders’ jealousy towards his brother was more than just a deviant competition. It was a genuine, hazardous issue.

He leaned in and licked my ear, forcefully pulling me closer with a hand on my belly. “I can pleasure in ways that will erase any trace of him from your memory. I can make you forget someone like Shane Vergoossen ever existed.”

That was it, the final straw. I inhaled deeply, steadying my breath and gathering the courage in me. I rushed out, leaving him alone with the mayhem of his sick mind.

NINE

Shane

Isat in my padded, black leather chair, tapping my fingers against the dark wooden desk. My mind was consumed by the lingering taste of the kiss I had just shared with Melanie. The way her eyes flickered between mine. Her chest moved up and down slowly. There were a hundred reasons why I should’ve let go and stayed away from her, but I couldn’t. All the control that I had been trying to preserve broke at the very moment when she entered the building. She was the only woman that, no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t resist. Starting with her dark, sultry eyes, the intoxicating scent of her skin, and the allure of her curved body, through the depth of her soul. She was perfect. Irresistible. She was the embodiment of sensuality. I knew that any attempt to resist her would be in vain. God knew how badly I wanted to rip off her clothes and make love with her every time she was close to me.

Despite all that she’d done, her disappearing, her wicked games, I couldn’t be mad enough to extinguish the flame she ignited within me. And now that kiss confirmed she still had feelings for me too. She could have fought her feelings all she wanted, but I could feel it. She still loved me, too.

Then Anders’ gaze while he leaned in to kiss her pictured in my mind.

Fuck.

My jaw clenched. I reached for my phone and dialed my assistant.

“Yes, Mr. Vergoossen?” Vanessa’s voice rang through the speaker.

“Vanessa, bring me the documents my father prepared a few days ago,” I instructed.

The documents, which I had previously shoved in my father’s face with rejection. The same agreement stated that the first of us to settle would inherit the majority of the company and assume the role of the new CEO. I knew how badly Anders wanted it all to himself, and now that I suspected he was using Melanie as his means to beat me in his cunning schemes, I was eager to play his game and claim back what was mine. I grinned to myself, swinging in my chair.

I’m back in the game now and will win back my woman and the company.

The joke’s on you, brother.

After work, I drove to the hospital to visit my father. Rain blurred the passing scenery as I accelerated, my thoughts consumed once again with Melanie in the leading role. She was the root of my problems and all I desired. Shaking my head, I instructed the car audio system to call Wyatt. He followed me in one of our black Mercedes GLMs like a shadow wherever I went.

“Yes, boss?” Wyatt’s voice rang through the speaker.

“Any updates on Callan’s whereabouts?” Tonight, I had to leave for Italy to run some business with the Moretti family, and the fact that we hadn’t located the rat yet drove me fucking insane.

“Nothing new, boss.”

My fist clenched around the steering wheel. I had my men dig through every corner of the state to track him down, yet there was no trace of him. He seemed to have vanished into thin air, much like three years ago. I had a hunch someone was helping him. Someone powerful. Someone like my brother.

My jaw tightened, teeth gritting. “Keep searching. Don’t stop until you bring this piece of shit to my knees.”

“Copy you, boss.”
