“Morgan said they just got there,” Sophie says as she checks her phone.

Morgan is Alec’s wife. They met the month after we did, and she and Sophie have been close friends from the start.

“Ready to go?” I ask, and she nods.

“Let’s go.”

I grab Ever’s hand, and we head out to the car. I have it running so that it will be warm enough for my girls.

“Will my friends be there, Daddy?” Ever asks as I buckle her into her car seat.

“Yeah, honey. Everyone is going to be there. Are you hungry?”

“Uh-huh,” she nods, but I can tell that she’s more excited about seeing her friends than the food we’re going to be eating.

Sophie is buckling Eden into her car seat, and I head around to the passenger side and open my mate’s door for her.

“Thanks,” she says with a grin.

She leans up, brushing a kiss over my lips as she climbs into the passenger seat.

“Of course.”

I wait until she’s buckled before I close the door and head around to the driver’s side.

All those years ago, when I left the Air Force and decided to follow Niko to this tiny town in Alaska, I never could have predicted that it would be the best thing I would ever do. This job, this small town, led me to my fated mate. It brought me to her at the exact moment that she needed me the most, and it let me protect her and rescue her from her terrible family.

And now we’ve built our own family. A better one than either of us ever had.

Fate certainly does work in mysterious ways, I think as we head towards Headquarters.

I look over, smiling as Sophie reaches out and takes my hand in hers. She smiles at us, that familiar twinkle in her eyes, and my wolf licks his lips.

Our mate wants us, he tells me, and I nod.

I know. Looks like tonight is going to be a very good night.

We both grin as we drive into the night.
