Page 11 of Just One More Shot

I go to my room to look for my phone and find it under my covers. I have a missed text message from Caleigh. My heart automatically starts to race when I go to open it.

Caleigh - I am not coming home tonight. I will see you sometime after work tomorrow.

I throw my head back and groan. I think about it for a few moments before I message her back,

Okay. I'm going out tonight anyways. Have a good night!

Now what am I going to do? I didn’t really plan on going out. I am not in the shape to drive. I guess I could get an Uber. Or I can see what Hallon is doing. We sometimes hang out outside of the bookstore when we are not working. I shoot her a text.

Hey! Are you busy tonight? I could use a few drinks. Want to go up to Lana’s with me?

Lana’s is a local sports bar that everyone frequents. I set my phone down and head to my closet to find something to wear while I wait on a text back from her. I need to go with something super sexy tonight, but not too over the top. I settle on a lacey black top. It has short sleeves and you can see through it from the neck down to the top of my breasts.

My phone dings back-to-back.

Hallon: I was just hanging around the house trying to figure out what I was going to do for dinner, so that is perfect. Now I don’t have to cook. I can meet you there in 30. I just have to get dressed.

Caleigh: By yourself?

I'm going to let her simmer on that for a few minutes. So, I respond to Hallon first.

That sounds good! But, can you pick me up? I have already had a few drinks and don’t want to chance driving.

Hallon: Sure! I will call you when I am outside.

Leaving my phone on the bed again, I find my pants. I'm going with my light-wash skinny jeans that have holes all down the legs and some black ankle boots. I brush my hair and apply light eye makeup. As I am applying my lip-gloss, my phone rings.

“Hello?”

“Hey I am downstairs. Do you need me to come up before we leave?” Hallon says.

“No, I will be down in less than five minutes.”

We hang up. I grab my purse, keys and look at my phone. Another missed text from Caleigh.

Caleigh: Are you meeting up with Nick?

I roll my eyes and put my phone in my pocket. I don’t know why she cares who I am meeting up with. She is out with her fuck buddy right now.

I climb into Hallon's car and we head to Lana’s.

I text Caleigh right before we get there.

I don’t know why you are worried about who I am going out with. But no, it is not Nick. I'm going with Hallon to get some food and drinks.

I put my phone on silent and leave it in my purse as I get out of the car.

Caleigh

I am sitting on the couch at Camdens watching a movie. I haven’t really been paying much attention though, because I keep checking my phone every five minutes to see if Elise has messaged me back. Sure enough, she hasn’t. I scroll through the last messages we exchanged.

Are you meeting up with Nick?

Elise: I don’t know why you are worried about who I am going out with. But no, it is not Nick. I'm going with Hallon to get some food and drinks.
